 MIT-ADTU to Host Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2024



Pune: MIT Art, Design, and Technology University (MIT-ADTU), Pune, is set to host the grand finale of the 7th edition of the Smart India Hackathon 2024 (SIH) – Hardware Edition. The prestigious event, organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), will take place from December 11 to 15, 2024 at the iconic Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Vishwashanti Dome on the university campus.

This year’s event will witness 29 teams from across India competing to solve five innovative problem statements from the Ministry of Coal and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Each problem statement carries a prize of ₹1 lakh for the winning team.


Grand Inauguration

The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Shailendra Goswami, Chairman and Managing Director of Pushkaraj Group, along with MIT-ADTU’s Vice-Chancellor and Executive President, Prof. Dr. Mangesh Karad, as the chair of the event. Esteemed dignitaries including Dr. Sunita Karad, Pro-Vice Chancellors Dr. Mohit Dubey, Dr. Ramchandra Pujeri, Registrar Dr. Mahesh Chopade, and Nodal Centre In-charge Chairperson Dr. Rekha Sugandhi, Co-Chairman Dr. Nishant Tikekar and Convener Prof. Suresh Kapare will also attend.

The program will be centrally inaugurated by the Ministry of Education at 9:00 AM on December 11, 2024.


About Smart India Hackathon

Launched in 2017, Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a national initiative aimed at encouraging students to solve societal and national challenges through innovation. The event has grown into the world’s largest open innovation model, with a record-breaking 240% increase in institutional hackathons this year.


* Over 2247 institutional hackathons were held in 2024, compared to 900 in 2023.

* 49,000 student teams (each comprising six students and two mentors) have advanced to the national round, addressing over 250 problem statements curated by 54 Ministries, Departments, and Industries.

Themes and Participation

SIH 2024 focuses on 17 critical sectors, including Healthcare, Sustainability, Emerging Technologies, Agriculture, and Disaster Management. The Hardware Edition at MIT-ADTU will bring together 168 participants and 32 mentors from 13 states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. The event will not only showcase cutting-edge innovations but also foster direct interaction between government officials, educators, and students, empowering young minds to create solutions for national priorities.
